GENERAL TIPS AND ADVICE
You don't need one invitation per guest, rather, one invitation per couple. Be sure to order enough invitations. It costs very little to order an additional 25 when you place the original order, and it is very expensive to create a new order for just 25 after the job has been printed and taken off the press.
In short, once you have counted your final numbers, add another five or ten just in case. We suggest you order extra envelopes for potential addressing mistakes.
Because of the huge amount of planning that goes into a wedding day many couples tend to order their invitations and stationery very late. By planning ahead for your invitations you'll avoid any unnecessary pain or stress by making the process as smooth as possible.
4-12 MONTHS BEFORE WEDDING DATE
Consider sending a “Save the Date” card to give your guests advance notice of your wedding date so they may avoid making plans that would create a conflict and also allow out of town guests ample time to make travel arrangements. Create a guest list written in excel or word with complete names and addresses corresponding to every invitation that will be sent.
12-16 WEEKS FROM WEDDING DATE
Have all the details of the wedding finalized for time and location of ceremony and reception. Select your invitation and enclosures, choose wording and reference your guest list to determine quantity. Always allow for 10-15 additional invitations than actually needed for overlooked guests and needing to send out additional invitations to reach a guest minimum required by your caterer in case guests on the original list cannot attend. When receiving your emailed proof, check every character of every word for accuracy, with special attention to names and addresses. When factoring in the 2-3 week delivery process, remember to determine how your envelopes will be addressed and if hiring a calligrapher make sure you allow ample time for them to return the envelopes to you so you may collate the invitations for mailing on schedule.
6-10 WEEKS FROM WEDDING DATE
Mail invitations, sending out of the country invitations two weeks in advance of your wedding date and out of state invitations one week in advance of local guests. This time frame will allow ample time for your guests to respond with an RSVP date of 2-4 weeks before the wedding.
Your RSVP date should be set at least 3 weeks before your wedding date. This will allow you to finalize numbers with the venue for any catering requirements.
• Invitation with envelope: preferably with the return address of the host printed on the envelope flap
• Reception card: is used when the reception (party) is at a different location from where the marriage ceremony will take place.
Invitations are issued by the hosts of the wedding. These may be the brides parents, the groom's parents, the bride and groom or a close relative of the bride or groom. Write out bride and groom names in full, including middle names.
The date is written in full. e.g.Saturday, December 7th 2007 or Saturday, December seventh Two Thousand and Seven. Following the lead from the date, the time can either be spelled out or use numerals e.g. 4.30 p.m. or four p.m. or four o'clock in the afternoon
The full address of the ceremony and reception (when no reception card is used) venue should be included. Address abbreviations should be avoided. House numbers are acceptable in written numerals.
